One of our favourite weeknight meals are fajitas! Buying kits at stores can be expensive but also full of not so great ingredients. Check out the ingredients in a popular fajita seasoning blend you can can in stores across Canada:
Ingredients
Sugar,
Dehydrated Vegetables: Onion, Garlic,
Smoke Flavouring,
Hydrolysed Soy Protein,
Spices (5.5%) (Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Ginger),
Acidity Regulators: Sodium Acetate, Citric Acid,
Yeast Extract,
Artificial Caramel Colour
So sugar, soy, nitrates/nitrites, artificial colours and GMOs. If you are like me and want to:
A. Avoid toxic ingredients
B. Save money
C. Eat something more natural
Then try making your own Fajita Seasoning! It is so simple and you can make it in bulk so that you always have it ready in hand to go with your healthier sprouted grain or lettuce wraps.
Ingredients:
¼ cup Chili Powder
2 tablespoons Himalayan Sea Salt
2 tablespoons Paprika (or smoked Paprika if you have it)
1 tablespoon Onion Powder
1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
1 tablespoon Cumin Powder
¼ Red Pepper Flakes (if you like it spicy!)
1 teaspoon Cayenne Powder (optional)
Instructions
Mix well in bowl or jar and store in airtight container until use. Use about 1 teaspoon per chicken breast or steak when making fajitas.
Enjoy and feel better about the food you are eating and feeding your family! Don’t forget the salsa and guacamole!
