When was the last time you Cleaned your Mattress?

I would imagine that the bulk of you may say never?

have you ever wondered what could be lurking underneath your pretty little head while you sleep?

Did you know that the average mattress can contain anywhere from 10,000 to 10,000,000 dust mites?!

Dust mites love to live in mattresses, pillows, comforters and upholstered furniture to name a few. Giving these items a regularly vacuuming or washing with hot water will definitely help, but when it comes to your mattress, you may want to take it step further to rid it of mites, dead skin cells, odours and bacteria.

DIY Mattress Cleaner

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of baking soda

  • 5 drops lavender essential oil

  • a strong suction vacuum

(this is enough to do half of a king size bed)

Instructions:

  1. Mix baking soda and essential oil in a jar or measuring cup.

  2. using your hand, sprinkle it all over your mattress

  3. Leave on your mattress for at least one hour — I left it on mine then went out for a few hours which gave the baking soda and oil plenty of time to draw out all of the nasties!

  4. Using your trusty vacuum, suck up all of the baking soda (I dumped my canister into the toilet then gave it a good scrub! Talk about a no waste project!)

  5. Your mattress will smell absolutely AMAZING!  So expect to sleep like a baby in your newly infused and clean as a whistle lavender mattress!

I would do this at least every six months!
